The History Of Italian Food

While some of the most popular dishes associated with the Italian culture include a tempting slice of pizza and a heaping plate of pasta, there is much more to the world of Italian cooking. Throughout the many regions in Italy, the distinctive cuisine of the Italians shines through in a wide-range of eating habits, styles of cooking, and selection of local ingredients. The changing of the times has also influenced Italian food, as the meals served in the pre-Roman era possess both similarities and differences in the cuisine of today.

Recipe to Make Fresh Italian Pasta Without a Pasta Machine

It is now possible to buy in stores all kinds of pasta, very tasty and of good quality. But there was a time when everything that you could find on the shelves of a supermarket is thick gray spaghetti. Young people today probably do not remember those times.

To prepare high-quality home-made noodles, you must quickly make butter dough. If during kneading you find that the dough starts to crack, immediately add little water and reshape the dough.

Italian Recipes

Italian cuisine has an excellent reputation, and the country's food is known throughout the world. While Italy is perhaps best known for pasta and pizza, there are also many excellent Italian meat and seafood dishes. Additionally, Italy is also of course known for its desserts and cheeses.

For much of its history, Italy was divided into many separate regional states, and with parts of the country being occupied by foreign powers such as France and Italy. Indeed, it was not until 1861 that Italian unification was achieved. As a result of this history, Italian is well-known for its diverse regions, and this diversity is very much reflected in the country's cuisine.

Math Tutoring for Kids Who are Gifted and Learning Disabled

It is easy to misunderstand a child who is both learning disabled and gifted. Mentally retarded, or "slow," are the labels often mistakenly given to persons with learning disabilities. Because of these misconceptions, a child who is gifted and who is also learning disabled often experiences a very challenging life. Academically, the child may perform poorly, but more important is the potentially damaging psychological impact of being perceived by others as "dumb" or mentally deficient, despite possessing the unlocked abilities and potential to excel. The self-confidence required for dealing with these issues and progressing past them can be achieved through success with a tutor.

Italian Recipes and Cuisine

Italy has a well-established and deserved reputation for producing high-quality food and tasty cuisine. Best known for pizza and pasta, Italian food also includes many excellent meat and seafood dishes, as well as excellent cheeses, and fabulous desserts.

It has often been noted that Italy is a country of great regional variations - and that is certainly true, indeed the country was only unified in 1861 - and this fact is reflected in the diversity of Italy's regional cuisine. It should also be noted that Italy has been invaded many times over the centuries, as well as trading with many other countries, and this too is reflected in the national cuisine.

A Kumon Review: What Are the Pros and Cons of Kumon Math?

Many parents are concerned about their children's math learning, some because their child is falling behind and some because they want their child's math knowledge to be stretched. The Kumon Math program, is a natural choice for many parents, as it offers a program where students of all abilities can progress at their own pace. Read this Kumon review to find out the pros and cons of this popular math program.

The Pros

1) It is more than 50 years old

The Kumon Math program is an established system which has improved the math skills millions of children worldwide.

2) Students are given daily worksheets

As well as studying at the Kumon center once or twice a week, students are given homework for each day they are not at the center. Practicing math skills daily is a sure-fire way to becoming better and more confident at math.

3) It is an individualized learning program

Students are given work based on their ability, not their age and their progress through the program is based on how quickly and accurately they complete their work.

4) It builds independent learning skills

Students are encouraged to study the examples themselves in order to work out how to tackle new work. This is an excellent skill for students to develop which will help them in their other school subjects and throughout life.

5) Excellent medium to long-term results

Most students who remain on the Kumon Math program for at least 2 years will have developed fast, accurate and confident math skills as a result of the daily practice.

6) It is cheaper than a private tutor

The Kumon Math program is about half the price of a private tutor, furthermore, all materials are provided in the monthly fee.

The Cons

1) It is more expensive than online math programs

The Kumon Math program is around 3 times the price of online math programs, many of which offer the same benefits of Kumon.

2) The instructors aren't teachers

The franchisees are men and women with various employment and academic backgrounds who are then trained in the Kumon method. Very few are qualified math teachers.

3) Students find the work boring and repetitive

In the program, topics are repeated until the student has reached mastery. This repetition carried out and the daily practice can be difficult for children who are used to the variety of math work offered at school.

4) It doesn't cover the whole math curriculum

The program focuses on arithmetic, number manipulation and algebra, which makes up only a third of the math curriculum. Students won't practice (much) geometry or any statistics in the Kumon program.

5) The implementation of the program can differ from franchise to franchise

Every franchise uses the same program, but some centers will be more strict in enforcing accuracy and speed criteria and in how much they will teach a student.

6) It uses it's own methods to teach math concepts

In general, Kumon uses traditional methods to teach arithmetic and number manipulation, whereas most schools have developed varied modern methods to present math topics.

With these pros and cons in mind, speak to your local instructor, read other Kumon reviews and speak to other parents in order to see if the Kumon program is a good fit for your child.

Math Education - A Challenge And A Joy

Don't worry about your difficulties with math, Albert Einstein is said to have told a schoolgirl who wrote to him to lament her lack of success in the subject - "Mine," he wrote, "are still greater." Like many of Einstein's off-the-cuff remarks, this one contains a profound truth. Math is the sort of subject that increases in complexity the more you understand it; as the diameter of your knowledge grows, so does the circumference of your ignorance.

Online Math Tutoring Provides the Answers

Online math tutoring provides the answers for your child's difficulty in keeping the pace in math class. Not everyone learns and works at the same rate of speed. So, when a student needs a little more help understanding new concepts, and extra time to complete the assignments, it can be devastating. Peers can be cruel, and the math teacher has unit deadlines to meet. Although willing to stay after school and give your son or daughter individualized lessons, your job and other familial responsibilities make it difficult to arrange after school sessions. Thus, online math tutoring provides answers to much more than the math problems.

How to Make Authentic Italian Pasta With Potatoes

You are not going to see Pasta with Potatoes served in any Italian restaurant, but out here in the South of Italy, most Italian families have this dish on the menu at least once or twice a month in their homes. This particular version of the dish, was given to me by my Italian Mother in Law, who is from Sicily, and it has been passed down through the generations with very little variation. Pasta and potatoes may sound a little odd as a combination, but I can assure you that if it is cooked right, then it is one of the great Southern Italian dishes. This recipe serves about four people.

Ingredients.

Extra virgin Olive oil
Salt
One medium onion
A piece of stewing or braising beef
A medium tin of Italian peeled tomatoes
One carrot
About seven medium potatoes
Pasta (not spaghetti)
One chilli pepper. (optional)

Step one. Prepare the tomato sauce, which forms the base for most pasta dishes. Cut and fry the onion, and add one teaspoon of salt. Add the diced stewing beef. When the onions and beef are nicely cooked, add some water. Continue boiling the mixture, adding water as it reduces, until you have dissolved most of the onion. Take out the beef and put to one side, to be eaten later.

Step two. Add the tin of tomatoes, and shred the carrot into the mixture. Continue simmering, then dice the potatoes and add to the pan. Simmer for about five to ten minutes, then add about 160 grams of Pasta. Continue to cook the mixture until the pasta is ready.
Step three. This is an optional step which will liven up the taste of the meal. Before serving, you can add a diced up chilli pepper, which will give the potatoes a bit of 'bite.' If you want to give your guests the option of making the dish 'hot,' then you can prepare a chilli sauce which can be added at the table.

To prepare a chilli sauce in the Southern Italian style, you need about five chilli peppers and a little olive oil. Fry the chilli peppers in the oil, until they are starting to burn. Remove from the heat and put in a glass container, preferable with a lid. Cover them with olive oil and put the top on the container. Leave to cool, and shake from time to time to release the flavour. This chilli sauce, can be put on the table to be used at will, with numerous pasta dishes, including pasta and potatoes.

Tutoring Requirements

Essential Requirements to Be a Tutor

Self employment tutors are free to choose when and how to tutor. In order to start you own tutoring business it is essential to be a true professional. A good reputation is mostly based on a good service. The following suggestions can help you make a check list of all the right aptitudes you will need to be on top of your game!

- As explored in the last article, it is essential to be confident: a thorough knowledge of your subject and a good aptitude at passing on your skills is foundational to all tutors.

- Always be punctual and reliable. This is the least clients expect from you and can make you look unprofessional if you overlook these basic requirements.

- Chose an appropriate dress code for a professional approach. Remember, you must reassure the client that you are serious, especially during the first meetings.

- Develop a good rapport with the student and parents. Express your self clearly, be articulate and direct. This sends the right type of message and helps both parents and students to relax. If English is not your maternal language and that you make a special effort to be clear and articulate, it will give you extra respect and consideration from you client. It is essential to be able to communicate with parents and pupils in English even if your classes are in your maternal language.

- Be well organized, and prepare each lesson in advance. Never waste your client's time!

- When meeting with your client for the first time, have a complete CV prepared, along with references and a CRB disclosure. These documents should be available to the employer from the start, so that they can be fully assured of your competence and trustworthiness before taking any further steps. This helps to establish a base of professionalism and trust from the start.

- Assess your student's abilities in order to adapt your lessons to each individual. It is your role to decide of the level, methods and content used during your lessons, but you must do so in a knowing, attentive way, by being receptive of your student's needs and abilities.

- A tutor should be able to give enthusiastic and enjoyable lessons. The ability to make your subject interesting is a gift, but can be improved on. Be constant in your enthusiasm and leave your mood / personal life at the door: this is the true mark of the professional Tutor.

- Give reasonable outcome expectations and a plan for both students and parents from the start. It is their right as clients to be involved as much as possible.

- You will need to provide, or be provided with a suitable area of study. The study area needs to be clean and tidy and more importantly, free of interruptions. It would be very unprofessional for tutors to leave their phone on, or accept interruptions by family members. Be polite and gentle but firm. Make sure both you (as the tutor) and the student remove any outside interruptions from day one (Turn off those phones, and close that door).
Location is covered in more detail in the next article.
